Portray and Write
The ongoing project Portray and Write is a painting + talking practice where she invites her queer Chinese friends she met since 2021 when she first moved to London. One by one she sits with them for a 5ish hour’s life portrait session, where they talk at the same time exchanging their life experiences as young Chinese diaspora and the same challenges they face from a daily basis as a transnational being. These sessions are almost therapeutic, providing both sides a focused time to see themselves and each other, resonate and heal.
3.5 hour life portrait with my incredible friend @pzps234 , who I met in a life drawing session realizing we are both doubled booked for modeling and had to duo model for the first time together (*´∀`*). She inspires me constantly as a dancer who managed to make a living and enjoy their creative life out here coming from Taiwan.

“Where are you from?”
Should be a simple question, right? But it deeply bothers me… How to answer, when you are aware of the buried history, the artificial black out, the secrecy and cursed blessing of being in a family who took part in creating atomic bomb.
You have no one to question, they are unconsciously silent even though you can see their lips move. The livings won’t speak, the dead can’t speak, you can only travel to the ruins of your family history, touch the bricks, the dirt, the remaining of previous, and wonder. Listen to a silent conversation behind the door...
For the ruins, all the so-called destruction can also become a consolation.
Dedicated to my father, in memory of my grandfather and my final longing of belong.

Loci Collapse

Loci, extracted from the phrase “method of loci”, also known as the mind palace (an ancient mnemonic skill which creates a virtual space in human mind in order to store memories in clear order with fast access), concludes the installation part of this performance. I handcrafted my own version of mind palace with a glitched living room set instead of polis streets that Greek orators like to use, which makes more sense for a modern city living: a random part of an apartment to code and storage memory.
It might be a dream, derived from the fear of suffering from the chaotic raised by the division from body and memory. Unlike the ancient Greek, the place where stores personal memory is no longer our warm brain, but mostly, the cold hard drives, cloud drives or various devices in the era of easily accessible media, in which the memories are constantly at risk of transmission, loss and confusion. This instability gives memory an appearance of a slow collapse. Memory and flesh are split by data, normalizing the process of forgetting, this is a tragedy for every modern human.
The set is the extension of human body, but also the initiator turning memory against human body. With numbers made by crystal epoxy embedded in every daily objects you encounter, the refrigerator overlapping with data terminal, the LED wires emitting dim lights that corresponds to the warm color of veins and arteries, the heart and brain parts escaping from body with the data flow. The freshness of fruits in the fridge is an illusion. Can’t you see? They turned plastic, rotten, giving out smells of machines. Are you confused? Of course. This is what happens when you let memory rest outside where they belong.

Holy Confucious

Through 3D painting and modeling, I created a statue of Confucius in a highly alienated form in VR virtual space, which can be accessed and worshiped remotely by believers. This is a visual attempt to religize Confucianism in the context of the continuing technological explosion, as well as a reflection on the serious crisis of lack of faith faced by modern Chinese atheists from the perspective of traditional culture.
